So many terrible presentations! How often have you been to a presentation that practically put you to sleep? How many have you dreaded going to because you know how bad they're going to be?
How often have you dreaded being "that" presenter!
When you get a platform, don't waste it on a boring presentation! Use your agenda to create a memorable experience that your guests will genuinely enjoy. Even better if you can tailor it on the spot to the situation.
We coached a music educator that was presenting regularly to youth ensembles. The agenda was clear: future opportunities in music (whether in college or as a professional). Important information? Sure - it was entirely relevant for this group. Interesting information? Maybe - although they already knew the script. Enjoyable information? Not really - everyone was dying to get back to rehearsal!
The information was important so we built that into the presentation, but we benefitted from an audience that already basically knew what they need to know. We therefore imagined and built into the script a different kind of micro-rehearsal. We gave each member of the ensemble a branded kazoo, and taught the group a "mini-lesson" via proxy with a brave volunteer from the crowd (in and of itself an engaging and entertaining experience!). Then we had the group's conductor actually conduct them in a piece that they were working on that very day where they all hummed their actual instrumental parts on the kazoo. We essentially turned every single participant into a volunteer, but with zero stakes... everyone actually participates willingly!

The joy and laughter speak for themselves! This is a presentation your audience will never forget!
